Cameroon: Tragic Collision on Mbouda-Dschang Highway: Bus and Truck Clash, Leaving Two Dead and Many Injured!

At least two people were killed, and dozens injured in a severe road accident on the Mbouda-Dschang highway, late Tuesday night. The crash, occurring near Moyang in Bamekoua’a village close to Bangang market, involved a head-on collision between a 70-seater intercity bus heading to the South-West region and a semi-trailer truck transporting cement to Bamenda.

Eyewitnesses and survivors report that the semi-trailer’s brakes failed, causing it to veer into the bus’s lane. Chief Warrant Officer Enguene Jean Baptiste, commander of the Batcham gendarmerie brigade, confirmed two fatalities and 49 injuries, with 18 in critical condition. Five of the critically injured were urgently transferred to Bafoussam, while others received treatment at the Batcham health center. The deceased were taken to the Mbouda hospital morgue.

The condition of the vehicles reflects the crash’s violent impact. “Around 10 PM, we heard a loud noise, and suddenly, the trailer was on our lane,” recounted a survivor.

The Mbouda-Dschang road, a major route under construction to support agricultural trade in the West, already sees heavy traffic from Bamenda, Douala, and Dschang, adding pressure to the challenging road conditions.
